Óró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile - Irish Anti-Imperialist Anthem From 1740s

English Translation:

Oh-ro You're welcome home,
Oh-ro You're welcome home,
Oh-ro You're welcome home...
Now that summer's coming!

Welcome oh woman who was so afflicted,
It was our ruin that you were in bondage,
Our fine land in the possession of thieves...
And you sold to the foreigners!

Chorus

Gráinne O'Malley is coming over the sea,
Armed warriors along with her as her guard,
They are Gaels, not French nor Spanish...
And they will rout the foreigners!

Chorus

May it please the King of Miracles that we might see,
Although we may live for a week once after,
Gráinne Mhaol and a thousand warriors...
Dispersing the foreigners!

32 County Soveirgnty Movement Commemorates Easter Rising

2012 Easter Statement of 32 County Sovereignty Movement

From: 32 CSM Fermanagh

The 32CSM would like to thank all of you for attending and all who travelled from near and far to be here. We send solidarity greetings to fellow Republicans and to all those who struggle against oppression and Imperialism. We would also like to pay special tribute to our honorary National Secretary Marian Price who may be absent here today, interned in a British cell but who is always in our thoughts.

It has been nearly 100 years since the Irish Volunteers and their comrades in the Irish Citizens Army marched out in unison to declare a Republic and to defend it through any means necessary. We are here today to remember their sacrifice and the sacrifice of all those who died struggling to realize that aim.

The past 100 years have seen many changes, however the underlying political problems which motivated the men who marched out that April morning remain. The twin presence of imperialism and capitalism continue to cast a long shadow over the lives of the Irish people. Republicans stand here today continuing to defy those who demand submission.

The past year has highlighted the extent to which the six county state remains an outpost of British oppression. We have seen the continuing harassment of Republican families, the return of the supergrass system, internment and the inhumane treatment of Republican prisoners in British jails. The targeting of our families has shown up the PSNI as the inheritors of the RUC’s shameful legacy.

Children are being brought into a political conflict, not through the actions of Republicans but by the trauma they have suffered at the hands of the PSNI. The searching of children as young as five and six has been admitted as a regular occurrence by this police force that we are expected to embrace as one which is here to defend our community. The actions of the PSNI have not only resulted in a new generation rejecting their presence it has also shown that no British force in Ireland will ever be utilized for anything other than to repress dissent.

The 32CSM challenges those who defend these servants of the crown, to explain what Republican argument exists that defends the right of the PSNI to traumatise children and harass activists promoting the Republican political message.
The return of supergrass trials is a timely reminder that little has changed in the six counties. Old tactics are being revived despite being totally discredited and contrary to the very notion of due process. Although these efforts have so far been aimed at Loyalists it is obvious that should they prove useful they will then be utilized against Republicans. The 32CSM stands resolutely against this system of paid perjury.

As in the case of Marian Price the British government have already proved that should there be no case to answer in court then they will dispense with the judicial process. Internment is alive in 2012 and its victims are filling the wings of Maghaberry prison. Marian has been interned now for the best part of a year in isolation for her political opposition to the Stormont regime.
She was intended to serve as an example by the British, a warning to all who dare challenge their right to rule in Ireland. Instead Marian stands today as an inspiration to all who refuse to bend the knee in the face of oppression. The 32CSM will continue to rally around Marian and we urge all Republicans to do likewise. We also send greetings to the prisoners on protest in Maghaberry. They have shown that in the words of Volunteer Bobby Sands “They have nothing in their whole imperialist arsenal that can break the spirit of one Irishman who refuses to be broken”

The prisoners in Maghaberry are standing by the Republican position. This is the same position that the 32CSM has always stood by, that the Republican struggle is a legitimate political one whose adherents will not be criminalised. The 32CSM has since our inception put forward a consistent and logical political argument. We believe that the fundamental source of conflict in Ireland remains the violation of Irish Sovereignty through the occupation of the six counties. As such all our actions, positions and future endeavours are underpinned by the reality of the occupation.

In the past two years there has been a clamour of numerous individuals, religious figures and political personalities rushing to call for Republicans to engage in dialogue. They have presented Republicans as unwilling to talk or as criminals devoid of any political argument. This is a distortion of history and an attempt to mask their true intentions. The 32CSM has sent our policy positions which are publicly available to all political parties In Ireland. No one can claim that we have failed to make public our position. Those seeking to engage in dialogue with Republicans have given no basis for which such talks should take place. This is because they have no intention of addressing the core issues of the conflict.

The narrative that is being peddled by the establishment is one of Republican violence and refusal to engage politically with the Stormont regime. Republicans however have consistently pointed to the British presence as the source of conflict. The only legitimate basis for engaging in discussion is to talk about the removal of the occupation. Other secondary issues can then be engaged with as outlined in our policy.

Today we say to the British government, their allies in Stormont and those calling for dialogue, the IRA are not the source of conflict, they are a response to an illegal occupying force. The suppression of republican political activists by the state is no accident. They seek to undermine the political nature of Republicanism. They fear our argument not only because it is consistent but because there is no way to accommodate it within the occupation. Republicans cannot and will not engage with the institutions of partition and those who do have no right to claim the label Republicans.

We are fast approaching the centenary of the Easter Rising; however next year will mark 100 years since the 1913 strike and lockout. In 1913 it was Irish capitalists supported by the British government supressing the working class. Capitalist oppression has no limitations of nationality. These coming years should be a time for Republicans to reflect on the social struggle and its intertwining with the goal of national liberation.
Irish Republicans have not always given the social struggle its proper place within the wider movement. This has been to the detriment of our cause and has seen us too willing to make compromises which have betrayed the working class from which we draw our support. The 32CSM has committed itself to the establishment of a sovereign Republic. We accept the analysis of James Connolly, that without the twin destruction of Capitalism and Imperialism in Ireland then there can never be true freedom.

The inescapable conclusion for all Republicans must be that just as Imperialism is politically bankrupt so is Capitalism morally bankrupt. We do not believe that replacing the union jack with a tricolour will be a sufficient resolution for the ordinary people of Ireland. We also recognize the reformist and anti-revolutionary nature of constitutional nationalism. They will wrap themselves with the green flag whilst enacting Tory and IMF cuts. Whilst we recognize the integral role of the class struggle in National liberation we lament the failure of the broader socialist movement to recognize that without the removal of British occupation there will be no defeat of Capitalism.

The 32CSM understands that these are not easy times to be a Republican. We firmly believe that we have a solid framework available that provides for a New and better society in Ireland. We have placed ourselves at the heart of our communities to better defend their interests. We feel that increasingly republicans are faced with the option of doing what is right or doing what is easy. The unavoidable conclusion to reach when looking at former comrades in Stormont is that there is simply no constitutional path to a United Ireland.

In the coming months we will be expanding upon our social program and we ask all 32CSM activists and supporters to give their input into this effort. We salute the continued resistance efforts by the volunteers of the IRA, their courage and resilience in the face of such odds stands as an example to all Republicans. We urge all of you to go from here today and to continue your activism on the streets and in our communities. We will continue to grow and our message will continue to serve as an opposition to those who urge conformity instead of resistance, subservience instead of revolution and slavery instead of freedom. Onwards to a Sovereign Republic

PressTV: "OWS Aligns With People's Struggle Against Capitalism"

Watch Video Here

Although the United States continually accuses other countries of violating human rights, Washington itself is widely considered as one of the biggest violators of human rights in the world.

Press TV has talked with Caleb Maupin from the International Action Center in New York to discuss the matter further.

The program also offers the opinions of two other guests: human rights and international lawyer Paul Wolf from Washington and Vice Chair of the Institute for Policy Studies Saul Landau from Berkeley.

The following is a rough transcript of the interview.

Press TV: For the first time ever the US came under question at the Human rights council at Geneva last year. Discrimination against Muslims and police brutality were cited as two of the top main concerns. Why this decline, overall; and then especially in these two areas do you think?

Maupin: Well, there is a number of factors involved with this situation. One of which is that the United States is ruled by a small elite, who have the money and the wealth and the power in the US, less than one percent most likely, but they are commonly called the one percent among the Occupy Wall Street Movement and they seeing their power threatened, as the people are pouring into the streets and demanding justice and so as a result they have been forced to reveal themselves in a way and reveal the brutality that they wage.

The second reason is the hypocrisy involved. The US goes around the world, invading people’s countries, burning people’s holy books, shooting people, murdering people, overthrowing governments; all in the name of defending human rights.

But if you want to see the human rights the US is talking about, you can look in Libya, where NATO bombs have destroyed the country and people are now in misery, you can look at Afghanistan where the people are suffering under horrific occupation and oppression. You can also look at the New York City, where the police murder people and get away with it, where demonstrators are clubbed and pepper sprayed when they tried to exercise their free speech and you can look in the US which has one of the highest prison populations on the planet.

This whole notion that one percent controlled government in the US, which is a tool of the bankers and the corporations, is an entity that has the right to speak about human rights and defend it internationally is false.

The US is one of the greatest violators of human rights in the world and it should be regarded as such and I think that it is a great thing that many people are realizing this and the people are standing up to this one percent controlled government and not letting it say it represents human rights, when in reality it represents the repression and the further enslavement of the human beings.

Press TV: It was interesting the way that the US democracy was described by former Vice President Al Gore that it had been “hacked”, what do you think he means by that?

Maupin: Well, I do not know what Al Gore means by democracy because when Al Gore was in office, he was just another continuer of the policies we are seeing now. He carried out imperialistic intervention in Serbia and elsewhere.

But I will say this, you know, one of the most striking things about this massacre that went on in Afghanistan is [that] this is the future that the US has to offer [to] the next generation. It does not have jobs for the next generation of youth, it does not have education, education is being cut, but the military recruitment is there and they do have the opportunity for young people to be sent to other countries abroad to be put in the situations and to be trained to be murderers and to be killers like this has happened.

I mean this is a continual policy of repressing people and the only option left for young people is not be educated, not to have a future but instead to join the ranks of an army being sent around the world to make sure other people do not rise up against the same conditions that are being faced by working people across the US.

It is very frustrating and very shocking and the fact that young people, you know, it is so crazy that all our lives in the US we were taught that the US is a great country because there is democracy and there is freedom and people are allowed to express themselves. But a generation right now tried to actually use that freedom and they poured into the streets and they are seeing what this freedom actually means if you ever try to use it.

The one percent government that runs the US has never been a democracy. It has always been a dictatorship by the super rich, who controls the banks, the factories, the media, the school system and they have utilized all of the wealth of this world in order to make more and more money for themselves.

And now people are revolting and what Occupy Wall Street, you know what we are starting to understand is, the people in Afghanistan [who are] fighting against the United States and fighting to liberate their country, the people in Libya [who are] fighting against the NATO occupiers, they are our allies, they are allies in a global class war against these bankers and these corporations and we need the working class in the US not just the radical youth but all of the working class in the US, the people who were being laid off, the people who were having their homes foreclosed, we all need to join in a global struggle against these bankers and these corporations.

These ultimately the bankers and the one percent that the Occupy Wall Street is fighting against, are not just the enemies of the people here in the US; they are the enemies of the people all over the world.

It is the US and the corporations that are causing poverty throughout the world and it is the US and the bankers and the corporations that are threatening wars that created and backed the state of Israel and which is repressing and brutalizing the Palestinian people.

And ultimately if we want to see change, there needs to be a global alliance between workers and oppressed people in every corner of the globe, standing up to this one percent, engaging in heroic actions like Occupy Wall Street is engaged in where take over buildings, we refused to let system continue as usual, we confront the police, we confront the state and we ultimately call out and say, we are the 99 percent; not just the 99 percent in the US but the 99 percent of humanity against the small ruling elite, who does nothing but owns while the rest of us produce all of the wealth of this world.

Press TV: Caleb Maupin, our guest there, Saul Landau, talked about the Patriot Act, of course you are familiar with the NDAA bill, he also talked about the authorizing the arrest without just cause, and then you have this Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act, which restricts gathering and protests at special public places, what are we looking at here? These are examples of violations of the first amendment. What happened to the first amendment? What is happening with the Constitution?

Maupin:
Well, it is interesting that all of the things you described are being used to allegedly protect people from terror. But let’s think about who the US has considered to be terrorists in the past. Nelson Mandela [former South African president], when he waged a struggle against the apartheid government in South Africa, was called a terrorist by the US government. The provisional Irish Republican Army, as they fought to free their country from British Empire, was also called terrorists. The Maoist rebels in the Nepal, as they fought to bring down an absolute monarchy, were also called terrorists by the US government, and still are.

So, if you look at it overall, the US government is not anyone who should be protecting us from terrorism. In fact the US is engaging in terrorism all over the world right now, whether it is Israel, whether it is in Africa, whether it is in anywhere. The US is engaging in terrorism. So, the idea that they would protect us from terrorism is very scary.

They are not trying to protect the people from terror; they are trying to protect their system from the wrath of the people as they boil in anger at its results which are largely economic at this point. People are suffering in mass economically, and I do not think [that] there is any popular support for these policies. I think the popular support is only amongst the halls of power, where they are they bracing.

This idea that you can’t protest in any “official building.” What is that? What is an official building? The law is so vaguely defined. I mean it would just make a federal offense out of things that are exercising free speech. The National Defense Authorization Act [NDAA] says they can detain anybody. Anyone on suspicion of being a terrorist, they do not even have to prove it.

All kinds of legislation is being used to make sure that the government has the ability to do anything it can, to keep itself in power, amidst the rage of the people. And if all the polls that are coming out right now show people are extremely dissatisfied with this system and extremely dissatisfied with the fact that there is a one percent with all the wealth in its hands and all the power and all the resources, while the people have nothing.

And ultimately, you know; the polls are also showing that the people are coming to an understanding that the word Socialism, which has been presented as the opposite of Capitalism and has been demonized in the US for a long time, is not such a bad word and that the idea that we could hold in common, all these resources which we have produced, yet the one percent owns; you know that is not such a bad thing and many people are turning away from the Capitalism and turning against the Capitalist system in the US and [are] looking for a more compassionate and more human-based and a more truly democratic alternative.

I am sure, that really scares the ruling elite and especially, it especially scares the ruling elite that this Occupy Wall Street Movement is not aligning with them and not saying, we want to make their system better and we just want to help them do better in their pursuit of oppressing and repressing the people of the world, but it is aligning with the people of the world in their struggle for justice. This is a beautiful thing.

"This Missile of the People" - The Bogside Doodle Bug

They came down the Bann in war ships,
Sailing out from Belfast town,
The R.U.C. and Specials,to put the riots down,
They flattened out like lemons,
And the ground they had to hug,
When there came a loud explosion
From the Bogside Doodle Bug.

CHORUS:
RUN BACK, RUN BACK,
WE'RE UNDER FIERCE ATTACK,
HOIST THE WHITE FLAG WILLIAM,
THE SERGEANT SADLY CRIED,
IT WAS THE BOGSIDE DOODLE BUG,
THE POOR MAN HE HAD SPIED.

Now this missile of the people
Was invented by a man,
Unemployed for fourteen years
When his good work he began,
Says he, it's no use begging
And for work we'll have to fight,
So I'll invent a weapon that will
Make the peelers sh-i-

CHORUS:

Now the doodle bug's a weapon
Quite easy for to make,
Just get yourself some petrol
And soap powder and some paint,
It's the pride of the bogside warrior,
The fear of the men in blue,
For when it hits the armoured car,
It sticks to the side like glue.

CHORUS:

Now the peelers used their batons
And the Specials used their guns,
They came roaring through the Bogside
Like the bloody German Huns,
They all ran back like cowards,
For they knew what lay in fate,
When the music of the Doodle Bug
Was heard at Butcher's Gate.

CHORUS:

Now to conclude this truthful story,
Look up to the sky at night,
You'll see an object passing by,
Going at the speed of light,
It's not a Lunar Module or Aladdin's magic rug,
It's the discrimination wiper-out,
The Bogside Doodle Bug.

Mass Demonstration in Ireland Says "Let the Rich Pay!"

In a call to action for the Nov. 27 mass national demonstration and march in Dublin, Jack O’Connor, president of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, called on union members and all the poor and working people in Ireland, not to stand idly by “allowing speculators, bankers and developers to run riot, pillaging and ruining our economy.”

More than 100,000 came out to the action in Dublin Nov. 27 to protest the brutal austerity measures by the European Union and banks over the past few years. And in particular the ICTU, Sinn Fein and other independent people’s organizations including socialist ones, are incensed and fighting back against the recent International Monetary Fund and EU bailout of banks in Ireland to the tune of at least $115 billion. The IMF and EU as well as the European Central Bank are now demanding that Irish poor and working people are to pay back the bailouts that were caused by the banks and speculators.

Some of the demands by the IMF, EU and ECB are that the Irish government carries out massive cuts to welfare entitlements, education and health spending and a drastic cut in the minimum wage. As in Greece, France, Portugal and elsewhere throughout Europe the demand from many progressives in Ireland is: “We didn’t create the capitalist crisis, we’re not paying for it.”

Ireland is a country with 32 counties. Twenty-six are subjected to neo-colonialism and six in the north are colonized by the U.S. and Britain. There is an official 34 percent unemployment rate for adults and 32 percent for youth.

Poor and working Irish people have begun resistance with the Nov. 27 protest in the capital and many others throughout the country from Cork to Derry to Galway and elsewhere. Youth and students are a leading force as on Nov. 3 some 40,000 students marched on government buildings in Dublin and on Dec. 10 hundreds protested over tuition increases in Belfast.

Sinn Fein Calls for Mass Memorial of H-Block Hunger Strike Deaths

From: Sinn Fein

Speaking as the Sinn Féin Ard Comhairle met in Dublin this morning Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness called on party members and supporters and the wider Republican community to turn out in huge numbers for the annual Hunger Strike Commemoration which takes place in Bellaghy, County Derry next Sunday, 15th August.

Mr McGuinness said:

“Tomorrow August 8th marks the 29th Anniversary of the death of Tom McElwee on Hunger Strike in Long Kesh. Tomorrow morning along with members of Tom’s family and the local republican community we will gather at Tom’s graveside for a short commemoration.

“Then next weekend the National Hunger Strike Commemoration takes place in Bellaghy, County Derry, the area where two of the Hunger Strikers, Volunteer Francis Hughes and Volunteer Tom McElwee came from.

“Republicans in Derry are busy putting together the final preparations for what is expected to be a very well attended commemoration.

“This is one of the biggest events on the Republican calendar and I appeal to all Sinn Féin members and supporters, to the wider Republican community, to the people of Ireland and international sympathisers to mobilise and show support for the ideals for which the Hunger Strikers gave their all.

“While 29 years have now passed since this pivotal period in the course of Irish history, the pride with which the H-Block Martyrs are remembered is ever enduring and I would urge republicans from throughout Ireland to reflect this sense of pride by making a special effort to attend this major commemorative event.”

Sit-Down Strike in Dublin!

Sunday 02 August 2009
by Tom Mellen

Occupying workers at Thomas Cook offices in Dublin are holding the building for a third consecutive day to press their demand for a fair severance package.

More than 40 workers, including two pregnant women, have occupied the company's Grafton Street outlet since Friday, when security workers turned up and announced that they had been ordered by Thomas Cook to close the shop.

Since then 40 more staff at Thomas Cook subsidiary Direct Holidays in Dublin's Talbot Street have begun their own occupation.

The direct action coincided with an announcement by the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) that members in the two shops had voted 100 per cent for strike action in response to the company's plans to quit Ireland by the end of August.

TSSA general secretary Gerry Doherty said that he has been summoned to court over the incident, but added that workers would not be complying with the order.

"Members are still inside, the mood is euphoric, we are fighting this - the support we are getting from the court of public opinion is huge," Mr Doherty reported.

He stressed that "no strike breakers will be allowed into the shops while the sit-in continues.

"We are not moving until Thomas Cook agrees to sit down with us and reach a proper agreement - we are not going to be bullied and threatened by a company which is deserting Ireland after 125 years."

The company said that it was offering five weeks per year of service as a redundancy package, which will drop to two weeks if the workers do not accept it.

But Mr Doherty warned that if bosses hadn't improved on the redundancy deal by Tuesday he would urge the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to organise a boycott of Thomas Cook holidays by its 800,000 members.

The travel company had announced in May that it was shutting its high street operation in Ireland.

Some 77 jobs are being axed with the closure of the two Thomas Cook branches as well as a Direct Holidays outlet, although the latter is not due to shut until the end of the summer.

Thomas Cook insisted that it would maintain its Irish business at its back office and call centre operation in Parkwest, Dublin, with 70 positions being retained.

Protestant Fundamentalist Lynch Mob Murders In Ireland

>>>>>> Flash: One dead in loyalist mob attack

A 49-year-old Catholic man has been killed during a loyalist rampage in
Coleraine, County Derry.

The victim, named locally as Kevin McDaid, died on Sunday night after he
was attacked in Somerset Drive.

There were reports of other gang attacks on Catholics in the town last
night following the victory of Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premier
soccer league.

The deputy first minister, Martin McGuinness, said a "sizeable group of
loyalists" were responsible for the killing and an earlier assault.

"They decided it was a good idea to attack a Catholic area," he said.

"I'm absolutely dismayed at this and I think at this very, very
important time, it's important that people in the community identify
those responsible and co-operate with the police to bring those
murderers to justice," said Mr McGuinness continued.

Up to 30 people were involved in the incident, SDLP Assembly member John
Dallat said.

"This is the second time that this kind of lynching mob has been
involved in Coleraine," he said.

Mr Dallat said he knew Mr McDaid's family well.

"This man was doing nothing more than going down to check on his sons
and lost his life when this lynching mob from a different part of the
town came along and rendered their form of justice.

"It's certainly lawlessness and it needs to addressed. The immediate
emphasis should be on an inquiry.

"It must be thorough, it must be detailed, and we mustn't be discussing
it years into the future," said Mr Dallat.
