Spanish Heavens - An Internationalist Hymn on this day of rampant nationalist chauvanism

This is a song written by German Communists who were forced into exile by the Nazis. From exile, they went to Spain to fight the same demons they had battled in Berlin, Nuremburg, and elsewhere. This is an INTERNATIONALIST song, about solidarity and freedom against fascism. - Caleb T. Maupin

Spanish heavens spread their brilliant starlight
High above our trenches in the plain
In the distance morning comes to greet us
Calling us to battle once again

Chorus

Far off is our home yet ready we stand
We're fighting and winning for you
Freedom
Freedom

We'll not yeild a foot to Franco's fascists
Even though the bullets fall like sleet
With us stand those peerles men our comrades
And for us there can be no retreat

Chorus

Far off is our home yet ready we stand
We're fighting and winning for you
Freedom
Freedom
Beat the drum ready the bayonets
Forward march Victory our reward
With our scarlet banner smash their colum
Thalmann Battalion forward march

Chorus

Far off is our home yet ready we stand
We're fighting and winning for you
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom
Freedom
