Note: The following is an appeal I wrote to a Progressive Christian Campus Organization at Baldwin-Wallace College.
“For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome.”
All across the country, millions of people are losing their homes, due to the predatory behavior of the banking industry. Soon, 10% of the homes in this country could be in the process of foreclosure.
Recently, the government has been bailing out bankers who suffer from the poor economic conditions, with our tax dollars. But where is the bailout for those of us who are losing our homes?
On Wed. April 16th, the International Action Center is holding a demonstration under the slogan “Bail Out People, Not Banks” in Washington D.C., in front of a massive gathering of banking firms. From Cleveland, a car caravan is attending the demonstration, and if enough interest is generated a bus already chartered in Detroit, will be stopping in Cleveland to pick people up.
Just as Jesus drove the money changers from the Temple, when they had corrupted a holy site, the International Action Center is seeking to gain reprieve for the people who suffer from the corruption of our government, by modern day money changers, clinging for their cash boxes, at the expense of the many.
I call on members of the Baldwin-Wallace College Organization “Space for Christian Oriented Progressive Engagement” to join us in Washington D.C. next Wednesday.
